Hard | Lines :: Week 4 – Drugs & Alcohol

This week is a topic that everyone has had at least a little experience with. Whether from a friends in school, siblings, other family members, or personal experience. Drugs and alcohol have a tendency to be everywhere and don’t seem to show any signs of disappearing any time soon.

Drugs and alcohol are accessible from just about anywhere and everywhere. If anyone wants anything, it won’t take long to find a place to get it, provided they have the mean to pay for it.

So, with drugs and alcohol being so prevalent, how are we, as Christians, to respond to those around us partaking or whether or not we should. Well, as I’ve said in previous posts, the best, absolutely best place to start when trying to answer any of these questions, is Scripture. If you’re not a Christian, or someone who has put their complete faith and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, none of this is going to make sense. If you are a Christian, following, are the verses that speak about this topic.

Now, it is worth mentioning that the Bible speaks plenty about alcohol, but it does not refer to any drugs by name. So when we’re looking for answers in Scripture and the Bible is not specific, we have to look at the principles that are taught in regards to acceptable behavior, not take it as permission to do your unnamed drug of choice.

Again, as in previous weeks, I am supplying the verses below and I am encouraging you to crack open your Bible and read the passages for yourself and see what conclusions you come up with. If you come to any conclusion different than any of mine, I welcome you to share with me what you learn. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and am aware that I make mistakes from time to time.

Psalm 51:10-12

Drugs are everywhere. Alcohol is everywhere.

At school.

At home.

Sometimes even in the place you’d never expect.

Drinking and doing drugs give the illusion of being included into a social group, escape from the problems of reality, and the promise of feeling “better.” But these are all lies.

I am including some links on articles and websites that I found helpful in learning more about drugs and their effects and what the Bible has to say.

Here and here.

Let me know what you think about these verses or if there are other ones that should be included.
